The design and implementation of telecommunication infrastructures on Metro Bilbao line 2, the first subway in the Basque Country, with cutting edge technology for high speed data transmission, for the interconnection of all the equipment installed both at stations and on trains, and for digital transmission systems for open and closed groups for all subway passengers.
Results
The Bilbao Metro is an international benchmark regarding aspects such as design, technology and safety. Currently, all the technological items are incorporated in a single network, including the PA system, lights, lifts, cameras, remote indicator systems, useful arrival time information and all the internal communication requirements of this Subway system.

Today, Bilbao is one of the most obvious examples of successful urban transformation. And one of the milestones of this success story is, without a doubt, the city's subway, an infrastructure which is now well-established and boasts the added value of having been designed by the architect Norman Foster, a Pritzker Architecture Prize winner.
Dominion played an active role in the radical changes in the city as the technological partner of Metro Bilbao line 2, which, only six months after its inauguration in 2002, recorded more than a million new passengers and converted the subway into the most widely used means of public transport in the Basque Country.
We were responsible for designing and implementing the entire telecommunications network on Metro Bilbao line 2. We are currently still making modifications and repairs on the network system.
This was one of Dominion’s first projects since it was founded in 1999. Many of the personnel who took part in this project still work at Dominion today, and have fond memories of the work that was performed. This was because it let them see the bowels of the city first hand, to learn a great deal and to grow professionally. And, lest we not mention the fact that there formed part of an iconic project that has transformed the city into what it is today.
