The new data centre, located in the commune of Paine in Santiago de Chile, presents a new technological infrastructure powered by NextStream, and shows an efficient and secure advancement for data hosting.

The Challenge

Project design and execution of the project, showing DOMINION's internal capacity to tackle projects of this scope and guaranteeing efficient management and accurate execution at all stages of the process.

DOMINION'S +

The new data centre at the NextStream campus in Paine provides dual redundancy for all major components, with two independent and fully redundant power paths. This means that, in the event of a failure on one power supply line, the other line will automatically come online, ensuring an uninterrupted power supply. The installation of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems in 2N configuration, combined with a medium voltage generator system, ensures that the new data centre can remain operational in any situation, even in the event of power outages.

In terms of fire safety, the new data centre is equipped with a low-pressure water mist extinguishing system, as well as early detection systems for smoke detection by aspiration (VESDA). In addition, the data centre has a building management system (BMS) for monitoring the main equipment, as well as a water leak detection system for quick reaction to any emergency.

NextStream's new data centre stands out for its technical capabilities, architectural design and space layout. With a two-level building dedicated to the data centre and ancillary services, it ensures efficient operation. In addition, it includes common facilities such as technical rooms, systems rooms, distribution corridors and office areas.

Results

It has a capacity to accommodate up to 300 racks depending on the energy characteristics of each rack, making it a resilient solution for current and future data storage and processing needs. In addition, it adopts a concurrently maintainable topology, following the Tier III (Uptime Institute) standard, so that the data centre design provides the opportunity to carry out scheduled maintenance and system upgrades without interrupting the operation of the data centre. This is achieved through the use of efficient systems and redundant components that allow you to switch between them without downtime.

The design and construction of the project has been carried out successfully and in record time, with special attention to occupational safety to avoid accidents. As a result, the project has been completed with zero accidents, and from the conceptual design phase to the final commissioning and operation phase of the DC, infrastructure and communications improvements have been incorporated to ensure efficient performance and reduce the costs associated with its operation. High efficiency cooling equipment with a closed chilled water circuit has been selected to minimise water consumption.

In terms of sustainability, the data centre at NextStream's Paine campus will be powered by 100% renewable energy sources, resulting in zero CO2 emissions, as well as a potential reduction in the data centre's carbon footprint, demonstrating both NextStream's and DOMINION's commitment to the environment.
