Refractory Lining

Partial relining of a blast furnace, installation of new cooling boxes and thermocouples at a ferrous material recycling plant.

The challenge

DK Recyling & Roheisen in Duisburg is one of the worldwide largest recycling companies of ferrous material. Its specialized process allows for a recycling rate of 98% and is thus an environmentally friendly and cost-saving alternative to the landfill of residual material.

Modernization and relining of a blast furnace requires vast knowhow, tight project management to reduce downtime, excellent logistics to handling the hundreds of tons of material involved and highly skilled manpower.

For this reason, DK Recycling entrusted DOMINION with the execution of this time-sensitive job.

DOMINION's +

For more than a century, DOMINION has been an expert in refractory linings. In addition, we undertake comprehensive projects for the iron and steel industry involving numerous supplies and services, from planning, engineering, material procurement to erection and commissioning. We offer repair and maintenance work and also turnkey construction of new plants.

This major contract included for example approx. 260 t of refractory materials (supply and installation), burden removal (approx. 150 t), mechanical installation (dismantling and re-installation of 510 pc. cooling boxes with flexible hosing and mounting of 160 new thermocouples to monitor the furnace process.).

Results

The job was executed successfully on time in only 7 weeks.

This revamping will contribute to a long-life and trouble-free operation of the blast furnace.
