The Challenge
VISY Glass, a leader in sustainable packaging solutions, has launched the construction of a new plant in Yatala, Brisbane (Australia), with the aim of recycling up to 200,000 tonnes of glass per year and producing 1 billion bottles. This ambitious project aims to maximise the use of recycled glass in manufacturing, significantly reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions. To achieve this, the efficiency of the furnaces is key, as they are at the heart of the recycling process. VISY needed a technology partner with expertise in advanced refractory solutions to ensure optimal and sustainable operation of its new furnace system.
DOMINION's +
Thanks to our expertise in industrial and energy solutions, we have been selected to develop this key energy efficiency project. Specifically, DOMINION is responsible for the installation of the innovative refractory lining in the plant's main furnaces. These furnaces incorporate state-of-the-art technology, such as oxygen feed systems and recycled glass preheating, which optimise energy consumption and significantly reduce emissions compared to traditional glass manufacturing methods.
In addition, the implementation of high-efficiency refractory materials improves the durability and performance of the furnaces, ensuring long-term operation with lower maintenance costs and reduced environmental impact.
Results
-
Increased energy efficiency: Thanks to innovation in design and refractory materials, the furnaces operate with lower energy consumption.
-
Reduced emissions: The technology implemented makes it possible to reduce the carbon footprint of the glass recycling process.
-
Strategic collaboration: This contract is part of a framework agreement with VISY Glass for the provision of refractory services in its operations in Australia and New Zealand, positioning DOMINION as a key partner in future projects.
