Tall structures

DOMINION was selected to design and build its fourth dome in central America with a capacity of 60 000 tons of refined sugar for the group CASSA.

The challenge

The aim of the project was to build the most advanced and safe refined sugar storage system but also the most efficient to serve as maturation silo before the packing and as a long term storage. The dome is the only system that guarantees a perfect maturation due its the thermal insulation and ventilation system.

DOMINION's +

Several parameters were considered for the choice of this storage structure: Environmental impact, safety, efficiency, cost, quality, versatility and maximization of storage volume in a closed area.

DOMINION was in charge of the design and construction of a dome able to accommodate 60, 000 tons of refined sugar.

Results

Refined sugar is received from the sugar refinery, passing through the dryer system then loaded into to the dome at loading capacity of 30-50 tph. After a minimum of 3 days storage, refined sugar is reclaimed from the dome at unloading capacity that varies from 30 to 50 tph and sent to the packing station.

The reclaiming of grains from domes is done by gravity thorough hoppers located in a diametric gallery crossing under the dome. The residual piles of product is reclaimed using a stainless steel screw reclaimer with a length of 28 m.

The dome Structure is equipped with one centralized dedusting filter located on the dome Apex of the dome with a dedusting capacity of 15,000 m³/ h.
