Automatización de líneas de soldadura para Volkswagen en México

The challenge

The electrification and automation of two welding lines at one of the largest car body assembly plants in the world, complying with the VAAS-5 standards established by the client. In total this involved the electrical installation and programming of more than 200 robots and more than 20 PLCs

DOMINION's +

The project called for advanced technological expertise to integrate various types of hardware and different manufacturers on the same production line, in the time required by the client to connect it to the entire ecosystem of the plant. Working with Dominion also allowed the client to:

  • Have a local implementation partner, that they had previously worked with in Europe and that offered them the same quality and efficiency in Mexico by assembling a local team of 30-40 people.
  • Guarantee fast project implementation by working with specialist teams and technologies that maximise organisational efficiency and minimise the margin of error in the automation process.

Results

The project met the strict times and quality standards laid down by the client, which resulted in Dominion being able to work for Volkswagen in other locations and factories around the world.

The Volskwagen plant in Mexico

Dominion has extensive experience in assembly line automation projects in the automotive sector, and has worked for many of the major OEMs. In the case of Volkswagen, Dominion had elelctrified and automated welding lines in various of its factories in Europe.

Volkswagen's second most important assembly plant is located in Puebla, Mexico, which boasts the same technological capabilities as its European plants and produces over half a million vehicles per year, 80% of which are intended to be exported.

Dominion's comprehensive expertise and presence in Mexico has meant that Volkswagen could have the same supplier for its European and American operations, thereby ensuring the same levels of quality, speed and operating efficiency.
