The Challenge
The main challenge of the project was the complete degassing of a propylene sphere with a capacity of 5000 m3 at a pressure of 7 bars, preventing the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere and ensuring the absence of explosiveness during subsequent maintenance work.
This service was particularly difficult given the high volatility and toxicity of the product stored in the sphere.

Our team installed and operated a mobile gas combustion system (VCU) , which allowed us to remove the propylene contained in the sphere. In parallel, a process of filling the sphere was carried out by injecting water to clean the sphere of any residue.
CEPSA needed to empty the sphere to carry out its periodic maintenance without causing gas emissions that would generate an explosive atmosphere or cause a negative impact on the environment or the plant personnel. Therefore, the most important thing was to prevent a free escape of propylene from the sphere.
Results
A completely clean sphere with a gas-free atmosphere has been handed over to the property for maintenance with the maximum safety guarantees.
The environmental impact of the operation has been minimized by reducing hydrocarbon emissions into the atmosphere to a minimum.
